Social Scene with Aelia, and DJ M-Squared & SEVEN_12

​On Friday, Full Sail put on a very special Social Scene. Every month, Full Sail, along with the Concert Management & Touring class, put on a Social Scene filled with musical performances, as well as, opportunities for different degrees to network with one another. However, this month the Social Scene saw a very special performance and video premiere from Red Bull Thre3Style champion, DJ M-Squared, and Grammy & Emmy award winning, SEVEN_12. The guys came to premiere their video for “We Get Wild,” and put on a memorable performance for students of all degree programs.

​We had a packed house as the afternoon began with a very special performance from Aelia; which is an indie-acoustic duo comprised on Full Sail students, Taylor Dempsey and Omar Maldonado. The duo performed original songs such as, "Looking Glass," written by Dempsey, as well as, a hauntingly beautiful cover of Halsey’s, “New Americana.” Their unique blend of indie-acoustic rock was a great way to kick-off the event.

After the first performance, we had a little fun playing some networking games with fellow students. Playing cards were passed out to everyone as they walked in, and the first game was to find your face card match in the crowd. We also played a game where members of the audience had to find people from different degree programs, take a selfie with them, and post to social media. Among the networking games, there were raffles giving away gift cards to students in attendance.

​When the games were over, it was time for the premiere of the “We Get Wild” music video. The video was the latest installment of the project DJ M-Squared and SEVEN_12 have been working on. The two artists came together to create hip-hop inspired electronic music, and they decided to bring their unique collaboration to Full Sail to give students an up close and personal performance. The video was shot by Full Sail film grad, Donna Davis, and featured Music and Entertainment Business students as production assistants. It was also shot on Full Sail’s campus, so it was only fitting that the premiere be in the Treehouse.

​After the premiere, M-Squared and SEVEN_12 performed for students giving them a one of a kind experience. The two performed mash-ups and remixes of various hit artists including Taylor Swift and Prince. M-Squared remixed on the 1’s and 2’s, while SEVEN_12 accompanied him on drums. The performance was energetic and really got the weekend started.

​Then after the performance, M-Squared and SEVEN_12 held a very special Q&A with students where we got to hear about influences, past experiences, and generally got to know the guys on a more intimate level. All in all, it was a great Friday afternoon. We got to hear some amazing music from Aelia, won some prizes, and got to see the video premiere of “We Get Wild,” along with an awesome performance and Q&A with DJ M-Squared and SEVEN_12.
